Travel & Stay
If you’re reading this section, we are so excited you’ll be making the trip to Houston for our wedding! Our ceremony is at the chapel of St. Basil, which is located at the University of St. Thomas in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood. Our reception is at the Julia Ideson Library, which is about three miles away (~10 minutes by car) in downtown Houston.

Again, we are thrilled you are coming to Houston to celebrate our wedding. Below are a few of our favorite things to do and places to go.
Our favorites in Houston
The Menil Collection and Park
The Menil Collection is an art collection with free admission located in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston. The park that surrounds it is one of our favorite places to hang out. Bring a picnic blanket or a yoga mat and enjoy the beautiful trees. If you’re staying at Hotel Saint Augustine, the park is right across the street from you.
Hermann Park
If you’re staying at Hotel ZaZa, Hermann Park is right across the street. It’s a large park with an outdoor theatre that often has free performances (Miller Theatre), various gardens, paddle boats, a mini train, and the Houston Zoo. It’s a great place for a morning run or walk. The Museum of Natural Sciences is also right next to the park.
The Toasted Coconut
A tiki restaurant with fun cocktails and Alison’s favorite tacos: order the whole red snapper and ask for tortillas. It’s perfect.
Blacksmith
Alejandro’s favorite coffee shop that also has great food options. His favorite is the Dill Scramble. Alison’s favorite is the oatmeal.
Candente
A trip to Houston isn’t complete without Tex Mex and barbeque, and this place has both. If it’s a Friday night, there may be a short wait for a table. We recommend a margarita, beef fajitas, brisket nachos, and smoked chicken enchiladas.
Giacomo’s
A family-owned restaurant named after a Golden Retriever named Giacomo. How could you go wrong? We recommend the whole menu, but especially the gamberi al diavolo, the garlic bread, and the spinach linguine with scallops (sometimes a special).
Mademoiselle Louise Bakery
If you’re staying downtown, especially at the Courtyard Marriott, Mademoiselle Louise is a short walk away (however, we recommend caution with walking places downtown). It’s a French bakery and coffee shop and Alison’s favorite place for work lunches (the baguette sandwiches). For a weekend breakfast, we love the ham and cheese croissants and the caneles.
